Candid Conversations: Q&A session with resident Judy Stewart

We're all about uncovering the fascinating tales and backgrounds of our residents at Greytown Orchards. Have a read of the Q&A session with resident Judy Stewart below to uncover why our village was the ultimate choice and to get a real feel for life here in Greytown.

Why did you move here?

I had been looking for some time and just couldn't find a retirement village that appealed to me around Lower Hutt or Petone. I didn’t like apartment living and a lot of the villas were either too small or over-priced. Three of my four children have properties in Martinborough and absolutely love the Wairarapa, so I came over to Greytown just to have a look and fell in love with the Village. It is beautifully set out and on a lovely flat site with everything within walking distance. I told my son who deals in property and he came to see it and he said “Go for it Mum I can't fault it”.

Where did you come from?

Lower Hutt

How long have you been here?

Eight months

What attracted you to Greytown Orchards and Greytown?

I loved the fact that you had a choice of different homes in a setting where you weren't living on top of your neighbours and the trees are just superb. What do you enjoy most about living at the retirement village? Not having to mow lawns and tend to gardens. So much more time to relax and enjoy life. I really love my villa, the layout is fantastic, it's modern and warm, the master bedroom is large with a lovely ensuite and the kitchen is really functional and well laid out which I appreciate as I love cooking.

What do you like most about living in Greytown?

The quiet peaceful living, not being stuck in traffic every time I go out.

What have been the biggest surprises?

The friendliness of all the Village residents. I’ve made some really good new friends and reacquainted with some old connections including an old friend from primary school and my new next-door neighbour in the village used to live down the road from me in Lower Hutt. Each Saturday evening, we get together as a group and take turns cooking for each other. It's just like going out and we have so much fun. I used to sit at home on my own doing very little and now I have so much going on.

What activities from the resident calendar have you taken part in?

Happy Hour and Balance classes and the Library. I look forward to doing more in the future as I settle into village life.

What are you looking forward to at Greytown Orchards in the coming months?

Just relaxing and enjoying the summer months with my new friends and not having to worry about maintaining a section or property
