Construction, Covid & Supplies

The construction industry continues to face unprecedented challenges as it struggles with material supply constraints, labour shortages and the impact of Covid 19.

A combination of supply chain issues and a surge in building activity across the country has created a perfect storm with many merchants and manufacturers struggling to keep up with demand for key products such as GIB plaster board.

In addition to materials, the demand for skilled labour is at an all-time high. This demand has been compounded by the impacts of Covid 19, in particular the recent Omicron outbreak which was seen many tradespeople forced from building sites to isolate.

While not immune to these challenges, the Greytown Orchards has weathered the storm better than most due to our close partnership with building merchant Tumu ITM and Holmes Construction. We are hopeful that as New Zealand turns the corner on Covid-19 and the borders re-open allowing skilled workers back into the country, the current challenges will become a thing of the past. In the meantime, we will continue doing all we can to minimise any disruption and delays.
